Chasity Lewis sentenced to three years in prison

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Chasity Lewis to three years in prison and three years of extended supervision Monday, July 9th. This, after Lewis pleaded guilty to second degree reckless homicide for shooting and killing 17-year-old Roderrick Capehart.

The murder of Capehart happened near 19th and Finn in Milwaukee in January 2012.

According to police, Capeheart and three others planned to buy marijuana from Lewis and then rob her. During the struggle, Lewis is accused of shooting the victim.

Lewis says she shot the victim because she didn’t want her money and weed stolen, not because she feared for her safety.

Lewis apologized in court Monday for her actions.

"I hope the court and the family will have it in their heart to forgive me. I know that drugs is bad and that having a gun is bad and the two together only makes the situation worse. I wish I could take this back, is what I say when I wake up every morning. This has changed my life drastically for the good and for the bad," Lewis said.
