Greenfield police investigating stabbing death

GREENFIELD -- Greenfield police are investigating after finding the body of a 37-year-old woman Saturday, July 14th in a home near 45th and Morgan. Police responded to the home for a welfare check early Saturday morning, and found the woman inside with wounds "consistent with being stabbed." Police say a 38-year-old man is in custody.

Friends of the victim say the man in custody was the victim's boyfriend for several years.

FOX6 News is not identifying the victim until police release her name.

The victim's friends say the woman showed no signs of distress in recent days. They say she was a great friend and an even greater mother.

"She was an awesome parent. She loved her kids very much. Her life revolved around her children," Bobbie Ridgen said.

Friends gathered in the lawn next door and watched as police went in and out of the house on Saturday. Friends reflected on the memories they made at the home now surrounded by police tape.

"Memorial Day, we we had a nice picnic. Labor Day, we were gonna come back. We'd just get together. It's an annual thing. Now, what are we gonna do this year?" Rigden said.

Friends say their focus now is the victim's children. They say she had three kids - ages 13, 8 and 7.

Police say this is still an active investigation.
