Casino gaming off the table for now in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN (AP) -- Negotiations to build an off-reservation casino near Lake Michigan in Sheboygan have stalled.

City officials say the project is no longer moving forward after the developer and the Mole Lake Chippewa were unable to reach a formal development agreement.

Claremont New Frontier Resort, the owner of the Blue Harbor Resort, announced earlier this year that they were exploring the casino development. The tribe, resort and city entered into a contract agreement in March that gave them a three-month window to reach a deal.

Mayor Terry Van Akkeren says the project was a longshot to begin with, given the necessary approval from local, state and federal officials.
