First practice of Green Bay Packers training camp held Thursday

GREEN BAY -- The first of 21 Green Bay Packers training camp practices was held at 8:15 Thursday morning, July 26th. At its high point, Mike Holmgren's Packers team had 60 such practices! The recent collective bargaining agreement changed that.

The collective bargaining agreement brought changes to Packers training camp, including no two-a-days, and no pads for the first few days of training camp.

The Packers will have 21 practices, and though some things have changed, others remain the same.

The players rode children's bikes across the parking lot to practice Thursday -- a tradition that started during Vince Lombardi's era.

Thursday's first practice, scheduled to end at 10:51 a.m., ended at 10:45.

"It's gonna ramp up. That's the responsibility of the coaching staff. For day one, we finished plus six, and for day one, I think that's pretty good," Coach Mike McCarthy said.

"Today was a good start. It was the first day of practice so we gotta kick off some rust. Now Day One is down, and we gotta learn from the tape and move on to tomorrow," Packers tackle Brian Bulaga said.

"Gonna continue to work and get better," Packers receiver Donald Driver said.

The Packers training camp schedule runs through August 30th, when the Packers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a pre-season game. The last scheduled practice before that game is August 28th.
