Third person in Delafield crash dead

DELAFIELD -- Police say the third passenger in a car that crashed on Nagawicka Rd. in Delafield last Tuesday, July 24th was pronounced brain dead on Friday, July 27th. That person is 18-year-old Ian Glidden of Nashotah. Friends say they learned he died this past weekend. Also Monday, the first of what will be three funerals was held following the crash.

The other victims of the crash include 18-year-old Kody Koepke of Delafield and 18-year-old Timothy Peters of Pewaukee.

The wreck happened shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday on Nagawicka Rd. All three were in a car when it slammed into a utility pole.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. However, early indications point to speed being a factor in the wreck.

Investigators say Koepke was behind the wheel, with Peters in the front passenger seat. Glidden was in the back seat. Koepke and Peters were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hugs were exchanged outside Oconomowoc's St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church Monday evening. Inside, mourners remembered Kody Koepke during funeral services.

"He was such a nice kid. One of the nicest kids I've ever met in my life. I've been friends with Kody ever since I was a freshman," Harrison Staudt said.

Staudt is one of dozens of friends in a state of mourning following the crash.

"He will be in a better place and will not be in pain. He was just hilarious. Anything he said, he would just make everyone laugh," Staudt said.

A growing memorial sits at the scene of the crash, and friend say they're reminding drivers to slow down.

"I think it's affected just about everyone. They're all good friends, and no one deserves to die like that," Staudt said.

Autopsies have been completed on all the victims and toxicology reports are expected to take 4-6 weeks to complete. Investigators say at the time of the crash, there was no evidence alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.
