Marquette reports potential men's hoops violation

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Marquette University has reported a possible rules violation that involves the men's basketball program to the NCAA.

The school didn't disclose what that rules violation entailed.

Larry Williams, the Marquette athletic director, issued a statement Thursday, August 9th that said the school takes possible violations seriously and "followed established protocols and reported the matter directly to the NCAA" once that matter was discovered.

Williams says the school is conducting a review together with the NCAA and has no further comment right now.

Marquette coach Buzz Williams is 96-45 in four years, including 46-26 in Big East play. The Golden Eagles have advanced to the NCAA tournament in all four seasons of Williams' time at Marquette, and they reached the regional semifinals two straight years.
