End of summer plans include alcohol? Cops boost enforcement

BROWN DEER -- Brown Deer police are joining law enforcement agencies across the state of Wisconsin to boost enforcement tp stop drunks behind the wheel.

The latest effort, called "Drive sober or get pulled over" kicked off on Friday, August 17th and will run through the labor day weekend.

"What we are basically doing is targeting those who are driving intoxicated.  Trying to get them off the roads," says Brown Deer police Sargent Michael Carver.

However, don't expect to see spot checks.  Carver says the best method of catching drunks, is through routine stops.

"You may see some speed enforcements," says Carter.
Last year in Wisconsin, nearly 35,000 convictions for dunk driving were prosecuted.  225 people were killed in alcohol related accidents.

The latest program is a friendly reminder to use common sense.    "If you've had a few drinks.  If you've been out at the bar or a friend's house think twice about driving," says Carter.
