Artist sought to work on Wisconsin Christmas tree

MADISON (AP) -- Applications are being accepted for artists interested in working with children to create ornaments for the Wisconsin national Christmas tree on display in Washington, D.C.

Gov. Scott Walker on Monday put out the call for applications from professional artists to work with a youth arts class or program to create the ornaments.

Walker says the project will commemorate 2012 as the ``Year of the Veteran.'' He says one of the artist applicants will be randomly selected to work with a group of children from his or her community who have family members who are veterans or are currently serving in the military.

Applications are due to govpress@wisconsin.gov by Aug. 31.
