Willie Hines to discuss recent 15th District violence during public meeting

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Common Council President and 15th District Alderman Willie Hines is hosting a meeting Wednesday night at MPD's District Three Headquarters near N. 49th Street following recent violent incidents.

Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that injured two men overnight Wednesday, August 29th. Police say it happened near 41st and Center Street just after 11:00 p.m. A 19-year-old man was shot in the foot, and a 24-year-old man was shot in the calf.

Both men are recovering at the hospital, and are expected to be okay. Police have no one in custody at this time.

Earlier this week, a man was killed and two women were injured after a triple shooting near 47th and Garfield.

Police say this shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, August 27th.

Authorities say a 40-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene. The two women, a 23-year-old and a 25-year-old, were transported to the hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the wrist, hip and leg.

In a statement, Hines said: "I will not stand pat in the face of this deadly violence. I will continue to take an active role in doing all that I can to prevent and/or lessen the chances of incidents like these recent shootings from occurring. My efforts will continue as a targeted approach working with the Milwaukee Police Department, the Community Prosecution Unit, the Neighborhood Task Force, the Department of Neighborhood Services, and local churches and community based organizations to help bring people and resources to bear on the problem. In addition, I will continue my walks through district neighborhoods as a means of meeting and listening to neighbors. And I will continue to use city code enforcement as a tool to address problem properties and nuisance issues."

Wednesday night's meeting is open to the public.
