Man rescued after being trapped by partial dam collapse

HUSTISFORD -- A man was rescued after being trapped under a slab of concrete from a partial dam collapse in Hustisford on Thursday, September 6th.

The first call for help came into emergency responders just before 2:30 p.m.

Apparently a company was working on the dam which separates Lake Sinissippi from the Rock River. They were attempting to fix a portion of the dam when it collapsed.

At least two firefighters had to climb into the water to cut debris away from the victim. They used tools like jack hammers and chainsaws to get the debris off of him.

In a news conference Thursday afternoon, the fire chief in Hustisford said the worker who was rescued was grateful to be alive. He says the dam where the accident took place is sound and operating as it should.

In all, at least a dozen firefighters were involved in the rescue. The victim was seen walking away from the scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

DNR dam experts are on scene and at this point there is no significant danger of the dam breeching. There are no flooding issues as a result of the accident.
