"40 Plus" company works to help job seekers amid 8% unemployment

MILWAUKEE -- In August 2012, 96,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy. That's down from 141,000 jobs added in July. The unemployment rate in August was 8.1% -- down from 8.3% in July.

Some economists say the new numbers indicate some of the jobless are simply giving up looking for work.

Dennis Cherne has had several periods of unemployment in his life. Now, he is president of a group helping others find jobs. It's called 40 Plus.

"Employers are cutting back all over the spectrum. I'm happy to get the chance to do something else. It's kind of fun. It's kind of exciting," Cherne said.

The group 40 Plus has regular meetings to help job seekers.
