Officials working to identify body found in Lake Lenwood

WEST BEND -- A seasonal camper found a body in Lake Lenwood at a private campground just north of West Bend. The camper called the Washington County Sheriff's Department around 11:51 a.m. Now, officials are working to positively identify the body.

Sheriff's officials say a man between the ages of 35 and 40 was found floating 25 to 30 feet from shore. Officials did not recover any form of identification with the man.

Divers searched the lake for clues to help identify the man.

"There was no boat floating or anything of that nature that makes us believe he was in a boat. We're still canvassing the area for any vehicles that might be in the area," an official at the scene told FOX6 News.

Lake Lenwood is a private lake, as is the area and campground surrounding it. The area is somewhat secluded.

Authorities say about 20 people are currently camping in the area, but there are no missing person reports in the Lake Lenwood area.

Jason Vredeveld told FOX6 News this is the first suspicious incident he's been aware of in the area. He says it's a small community and the neighborhood is close knit.

It's really weird. It's odd in West Bend. It's such a nice area," Vredeveld said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
