Drop off unused prescription drugs during "Take Back Day" Saturday

MILWAUKEE -- Saturday, September 29th, communities across the state will mark "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day" by collecting unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs.

Drugs can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The Take Back service is free and anonymous.

Using your zip code, you can find a drop-off location near you by visiting the DEA website by CLICKING HERE.

“These drugs can be easy targets for abuse because they may be so readily available, especially for our children. Removing the hazard through this Take Back program helps to prevent crime and sadly, what could become a tragic loss of life," Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said in a statement.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back campaign is sponsored by the DEA.

Earlier this year, the DEA reported that a record 37,642 pounds, or 18.7 tons, worth of prescription drugs were dropped off at collection sites throughout Wisconsin on April 28, 2012, making Wisconsin the third largest contributor of unwanted medications in the country.
