Man charged with bank robbery wanted to be caught

MILWAUKEE -- A 25-year-old South Milwaukee man is now charged with robbing the TCF Bank branch on S. Howell Ave. in Oak Creek on Saturday, October 20th. The criminal complaint indicates Joseph Jenich robbed the bank because he wanted to get caught.

The complaint says Jenich walked into the TCF Bank branch on Saturday. When he approached a teller in a disguise, he passed a folded sheet of paper to her. It included the message: "all money in a bad any dye packs and I blow this whole place, be calm draw no attention to you or you die any problems you're dead."

The complaint says the teller took a plastic bag that Jenich handed her and filled it with money from her cash drawer. She told police Jenich repeatedly said, "no dye packs, no dye packs."

After reviewing the surveillance video from the robbery, police were able to track down Jenich. In his statement to police found in the criminal complaint, Jenich said, "robbing the bank was the solution. It's impossible for me to stay clean. I'm sucking everyone dry." Jenich also said, "I wanted to rob a federal bank. I wanted to go to federal prison."

Jenich pleaded not guilty on Friday to the charge he now faces. If convicted, Jenich faces up to 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.
