Red Cross volunteers head east to help with Sandy recovery

MILWAUKEE -- High winds and heavy rain are not stopping local volunteers from heading out east.

"I need to go," volunteer Dave Piper said.

Piper and John Slegers will be assisting people hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.  The storm has already hit Cuba and the Bahamas.  It is being blamed for more than 40 deaths.  Sandy is expected to hit the US, bringing with it, wind, rain and snow.

The two are traveling in an emergency response vehicle.  The ERV will be filled with food, water and clean-up kits.

"We volunteered so that we could go out and help individuals going through this very difficult time," volunteer John Slegers said.

The pair will return in two to three weeks.
