Generac officials say "dozens of truck loads" of generators sent out east

WHITEWATER -- Generators from southeastern Wisconsin's Generac Power Systems continue to be in high demand on the East Coast following Hurricane Sandy. Many in Sandy's path remain without power since the storm made landfall Monday, October 29th -- and this has the Wisconsin company working around the clock to help those in need.

Art Aiello says at Generac's Whitewater distribution center, the company is operating three shifts in an effort to keep up with the increased demand for stand-by generators.

"We continue to be working around the clock. It's all hands on deck here. Everything that's going on on our factory floor right now is very much in response to Sandy," Aiello said.

The response has included a lot of overtime and potential plans to make 100 hires, as those who live in Sandy-ravaged areas work to clean up and move forward.

"Over the past week, we have shipped tens of thousands of generators out east -- dozens of truck loads per day," Aiello said.

Aiello told FOX6 News the line workers couldn't even spare the time for an interview Thursday.

"We just want to let them do their jobs so they can get the product out the door," Aiello said.

Aiello says even though the employees may be fatigued after a week's worth of intense work, they are happy for the opportunity to help with Sandy relief.

"Everybody on the East Coast is having it a lot tougher than we are," Aiello said.

Generac officials say they expect to continue getting orders in the coming months from homeowners who want to have stand-by generators on hand in anticipation of the next storm.
