MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Parks System has announced the opening of the reconstructed Sports Complex parking lot.

The parking lot is specially designed to help reduce storm water pollution, and also reduces the strain from the storm water sewer system.

Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District says innovation like this could and should be implemented nationwide.

"Some of these areas where you can't do other things to manage storm water. Think about New York City, New Jersey -- all those folks who are flooded out from last week's Hurricane Sandy -- more of this will soften the blow from storms they experienced,"

The stones used in the parking lot are specially designed to hold access water. What's not stored in the stones will run off into the surrounding vegetation.
