Comets burn the Wave in OT, 13-11

MILWAUKEE -- While the Wave celebrated its home opener by dropping the 2012 MISL Championship Banner, which is the team’s sixth championship, they suffered their first loss of the season in overtime to the Missouri Comets 13-11. The Comets came into the game 3-0 on the season and played the Wave tough throughout. They pushed the game into a golden goal overtime period and ultimately beat the Wave 13-11.  

Joe Hammes opened the scoring on a restart giving the Wave a 2-0 lead. Bryon Alvarez answered for the Comets, tying the game at 2-2 where the score stood at the end of the first quarter. The Comets’ Brian Harris found the back of the net giving the Comets a 4-2 lead. The Wave answered back and took the lead as Luan Sales Oliviera fired in a 3-point goal. The Wave added to their lead as Pablo scored with just seconds left in the half giving the Wave a 7-4 advantage heading into the locker room.

The Comet’s Junge snuck in a 3-point goal near post to tie the game at 7-7 in the 3rd quarter. The Wave’s Jonatan Santos restored the Wave’s lead, putting them up 9-7. Jonathan Greenfield increased the Wave’s lead to 11-7 soon after. Alvarez quickly scored his second goal of the day cutting the Wave’s lead to 11-9. The Comets put in a sixth attacker ultimately scoring with: 33 left in the game on a goal by Will John, which sent the game into overtime. In the golden goal overtime the Comets Coady Andrews scored giving the Comets a 13-11 lead.

Milwaukee Wave plays next on the road in Baltimore on November 16th. They return to the U.S. Cellular Arena on December 1st as they take on the Chicago Soul.
