Watertown police say two arrested in school burglaries

WATERTOWN -- Watertown police say two arrests have been made in the burglaries of two schools that occurred in the late evening to early morning hours of Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November 11th.

The suspects are 23 and 24 years old. Their names have not yet been released, pending burglary charges.

The first burglary occurred at Schurz Elementary School (1508 Neenah Street).

Police say suspects broke a window and entered the school. While in the school, they forced their way into several offices, causing extensive damage. Police believe the only thing taken was a small amount of cash.

The second burglary occurred at Riverside Middle School (131 Hall Street).

Police says suspects again entered through a window, and again got away with a small amount of cash.

Police say the two individuals were arrested following tips from citizens who viewed surveillance video. Police say both suspects have been incarcerated in prison for previous crimes and had been released within this past year.

Some student and staff property has been recovered, according to police.
