Woman severely beaten by two-by-four, attacker remains at large

MILWAUKEE -- What started inside a home near Teutonia and Wright was nearly finished just outside the back door. 47-year-old Vega Daigle was beaten in the head by a two-by-four and left for dead -- and her attacker remains at large.

When Daigle regained consciousness, she was inside Froedtert Hospital. Her prognosis was grim due to the number of strikes to her head.

"She's got severe brain trauma. They said she may never be the same again," Daigle's sister said.

Daigle's sister says time in the hospital has taken its toll on her family.

"It's hard for me to go see her. It's been a tragedy for me and my family. It's hard to go in the room. I just don't believe it," Daigle said.

Daigle's sister says Vega was a loving mother and outgoing family member, and her family want to remember her that way -- not as a woman beaten so badly she was temporarily blinded, and will have to relearn how to speak.

Neighbor Guy Coleman said he saw part of the attack back on August 16th, and said he believes an argument between Daigle and a man she was with sparked the violence.

"He claimed that she took $40 from him. $40. I couldn't believe it. I kept telling him to leave her alone," Coleman said.

Coleman said he left to call 911, but when he returned, the damage was done.

Daigle's attacker remains at large.

"I'm angry at the fact that someone would actually do this to her. I'm angry, I'm mad and I want some results from it," Daigle's sister said.

Milwaukee police say their investigation into this case is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact them at (414) 935-7360.
