Man convicted of causing injuries leading to death of infant may avoid prison

FOND DU LAC (AP) -- A Fond du Lac man convicted of causing injuries that led to the death of an 18-month-old girl may avoid prison.

A judge on Monday, November 26th sentenced 24-year-old Tyler J. Jackson to 10 years of probation. An additional 10-year prison sentence was stayed, meaning Jackson won't serve the time if he successfully completes probation.

Jackson pleaded no contest to second-degree reckless homicide in the death of his girlfriend's daughter.

The criminal complaint says Jackson told investigators the girl fell down six steps. He said he found her lying on the floor with blood around her mouth.

The complaint says a doctor described the girl's head injury as one of the worst cases of brain damage she had ever seen.
