Handicap accessible van stolen from mom and pop business

BROWN DEER -- A handicap accessible van was stolen at gunpoint, and the crime is hurting a growing mom and pop business during a very busy time of the year. We're told the van was returned in the area it was stolen. Milwaukee police are working the scene to get clues that will hopefully lead them to the thief.

Dispatching was made more difficult on Thursday, November 29th for family-owned R-Legacy Transportation company owner Juanita Nash, as she was missing one of her three handicap accessible vans.

The van was stolen Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. The R-Legacy driver was stopped at a red light near 27th and Burleigh.

Juanita's granddaughter Candice Nash manages R-Legacy for the family. She says fortunately, the back of the van was empty and the driver is okay.

"A young man approached him with a pistol, held it to his head, and told him 'you need to step out the vehicle,' so he got out and the guy took off with the vehicle," Candice Nash said.

At this point, Candice says she is concerned with not just the lost business, as they have reportedly had to turn some clients away, but more importantly, the lost mobility of some of their handicapped customers.

"I just think it's crazy and it's sad -- really sad," Candice Nash said.

The stolen van is a Dodge Caravan.

Nash is hoping someone can help police locate the van, so she can once again dispatch her full fleet, and serve her clients.

Anyone who has seen the van or has any information that could help police is asked to give them a call at (414) 935-7252.
