Vigil held in honor of six-year-old boy struck, killed by van

MILWAUKEE -- Family and friends of a six-year-old killed when he was hit by a car held a vigil Thursday night, November 29th.

Christopher Wade was killed in April after being hit by a car driven by Dedrick Ashford.

On Wednesday, Ashford was sentenced to one year in prison and one year of extended supervision for driving without a license.

The sentence led to a brawl at the courthouse.

At the vigil Thursday night, Wade's family said loved ones are helping them cope.

"We'll never get C.J. back. That's a face. But we do feel a little better," Patricia Williams, Wade's grandmother said.

The day of C.J.'s death, a witness told police he saw the boy run out in front of Ashford's van.

The family told FOX6 News they have been told the city is working on installing more speed bumps in the streets.
