Funeral held for boxer 'Macho' Camacho in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) -- Hundreds cheered and shouted ``Macho'' when Hector Camacho's coffin was carried out and loaded into a hearse after his New York City funeral.

On Saturday, about 300 people mourned in the stately East Harlem church that the former world champion boxer attended as a boy.

Camacho was fatally wounded in a Nov. 20 shooting in Puerto Rico. He was 50. Police continue to investigate.

The Rev. Frank Skelly remembered Camacho as a child and says that's how God knows him.

St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church was about half-filled. Hundreds more waited behind police barricades across the street.

Camacho is to be buried after the service at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
