48-year-old man dead following RV fire in Racine

RACINE -- Fire officials say 48-year-old Peter Johnson was found dead inside an RV following a fire Monday night, December 3rd in Racine. This is the second fatal fire that city in less than a month.

Officials say the fire broke out just before midnight in an RV mobile home that was parked on a residential lot at the intersection of LaSalle and Albert Street. Firefighters had initially believed two people may have been trapped inside the RV.

Authorities say Johnson was discovered inside the RV after fire crews extinguished the flames.

Stephania Puckett knew Johnson well.

"He fixed everything. He fixed my lawnmower. He didn't bother nobody," Puckett said.

Adam Childs also spoke with Johnson often.

"He was an avid fisherman. That's what we always talked about was fishing. He'd always see me, my brother and all of our buddies walking around with our fishing gear. Talk to him about fishing and stuff," Childs said.

Racine officials are ruling the fire accidental. But they're continuing to investigate.

In the meantime, Racine investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at 262-635-7756 or CrimeStoppers at 262-636-9330.
