Packers face off with Detroit Lions in another divisional rivalry Sunday
GREEN BAY — The 8-4 Green Bay Packers face off in another divisional rivalry in Week 14 of regular season play when they take on the 4-8 Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field, in a Sunday night game.
Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. in Green Bay.
This game is the first prime-time meeting between the division rivals since a Sunday night game at Lambeau Field in 2005.
This is the second in a stretch of three straight NFC North games for Green Bay, the first time the Packers have had three consecutive divisional contests on the schedule since 2006. Three of Green Bay’s final four remaining games are against divisional foes.
With their 23-14 win over the Vikings on Sunday at Lambeau Field, the Packers extended their franchise-record divisional winning streak to 10 games. It is the longest current divisional winning streak in the NFL.
Green Bay is currently tied with Chicago (8-4) for first place in the NFC North, two games ahead of Minnesota (6-6). The Packers beat the Bears in Week 2, and the teams square off again at Chicago in Week 15.
The Packers and Lions began their series back in 1932. No other NFL teams have played every year since then. The rivalry kicked off in 1930 at City Stadium in Green Bay, a 47-13 Packers win. Two seasons later, the clubs began a yearly series.
The Packers and Lions last met at Lambeau Field on January 1st, when the Packers won 45-41. Starting QB Aaron Rodgers rested for the playoffs, and QB Matt Flynn threw for 480 yards and six touchdown passes. That included a four-yard scoring strike to tight end Jermichael Finley with just over a minute remaining to give Green Bay the win.
The Packers have won 21 straight games over Detroit in Wisconsin, including a ’94 playoff game. The 20 straight regular-season wins in Wisconsin ranks No. 1 among active NFL streaks at one team’s home field.
On Rodgers’ birthday, the Packers defeated the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field, 23-14.
The Packers next take on the Chicago Bears in Chicago on December 16th.
