Meetings held to discuss I-94 East-West corridor reconstruction

MILWAUKEE -- The public is invited to attend one of two meetings to learn more about plans to rebuild a stretch of the I-94 east-west corridor in Milwaukee County. Those meetings are being held at the following locations:

The study involves a three-mile segment of I-94 between 70th Street and 25th Street. I-94 first opened to traffic in the early 1960s. The design is outdated -- pavement and bridges need complete replacement and crashes are a serious issue.

The study team has spent the last several months meeting with the community and analyzing a wide range of options for the complex I-94 freeway system in this segment. Some options to be discussed at the public meetings include:

Jason Lynch is the Department of Transportation project manager for the I-94 east-west corridor study project which is hosting the meetings.

"The purpose of that is the first time for the public to comment on some of the design options that we have, that the team has been working on, over the past four months, and to give them a chance to look at these options," Lynch said.

Options include adding lanes to the corridor, on the side, up high and down low.

From the first looks, WisDOT is hoping to continue to receive additional public feedback.

"Comments shape the projects that we do," Lynch said.

No decisions have been made regarding improvements or changes to freeway access in the corridor. The study team is very early in the process and cost information associated with preliminary options is not yet available.
