Packers NFC North champs after 21-13 win over Chicago Bears

CHICAGO -- The Green Bay Packers are now NFC North champions after defeating the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday, December 16th, 21-13.

The Pack clinched its second straight NFC North title with the victory.

There was no scoring in the first quarter of this division rivalry matchup.

In the second quarter, Brandon Marshall caught a 15-yard pass from Bears QB Jay Cutler, and put the Bears on the board.

Later in the second quarter, James Jones caught a 29-yard pass from Packers QB Aaron Rodgers to tie up the game.

Then, Jones caught an eight-yard pass from Rodgers for a second touchdown in the second quarter. Each of Crosby's kicks for the extra points after Jones' touchdowns were good.

The score at halftime was Packers 14, Bears 7.

In the second half, Jones caught a third touchdown pass from Rodgers -- this time a six-yard pass. 

The Bears answered with a 34-yard field goal from Olindo Mare.

In the fourth quarter, the Packers were scoreless, while the Bears executed a field goal. Mare kicked a 34-yard field goal after a four-play drive.

The final score was Packers 21, Bears 13.

Also on Sunday, Green Bay was aiming for its third season sweep of the Bears in the last four years (2009, 2011).

The Packers and Bears last met at Lambeau Field was on September 25th of last year, when the Packers won 27-17.

In that game at Soldier Field, Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for 297 yards and three TDs on 28-of-38 passing, with all three of his TD passes going to Tight End Jermichael Finley. Wide Receiver Greg Jennings led the team with nine receptions for 119 yards (13.2 avg.). Safety Morgan Burnett posted a career-high two interceptions, and Green Bay’s defense limited the Bears to just 13 yards rushing on 12 carries (1.1 avg.). 

No two teams have met on the gridiron more than the Packers and Bears. Sunday they face off for the 186th time. During the 2010 season, the teams squared off in the playoffs for just the second time in the history of the series. With a berth in Super Bowl XLV on the line, the Packers emerged victorious, 21-14, in the NFC Championship Game at Soldier Field.
