Kids helping kids during holidays

GRAFTON --  It is a company known for stamping metal, more than for having reindeer, a workshop, or a man with a beard.  But Saturday, Kapco in Grafton was looking a whole lot more like that magical place up North.  Shelves were loaded with toys, not thanks to elves, but children.

For the 7th straight year, Kapco held their Kids 2 Kids Christmas Toy Drive.  More than 50 schools participated this year, with crowds of more children dropping off toys on Saturday.

"We really wanted to motivate kids to get involved.  You know teachable moment.  Give kids the lesson of teaching, not receiving," says Kapco CEO Jim Kacmarcik.

The concept is simple.  Kids, not adults, brings toys, that will then be donated to the salvation army and handed out to a less fortunate child in the area.  Mother Lori O'Brien was in near tears describing how her 4 year old son saved up all year for a special present for himself, only to at the last moment, decide to spend the money on toys for other kids.

"We just want to teach the kids that you put others ahead of yourself.  and to see 4,5, and 6-year-olds doing the same thing just touches my heart," says O'Brien.

Kapco says they estimate this years haul was huge and they are giving all of the credit for a successful drive to thousands of kids who participated.

"It looks like we're on our way to 20,000 toys of different sizes as you can so we are going to help a lot of people," says O'Brien.
