Milwaukee County road crews ready to deal with slush, rain

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County is expected to see lower amounts of snow. But road crews say the rain and slush can be just as bad as higher snow amounts.

The county has some 50 crew members and vehicles ready to deploy by Thursday morning, December 20th to keep the freeways clear.

The city of Milwaukee will also have its resources ready to deploy as soon as necessary.

"We are prepared to deploy our trucks. We normally start out with about 90 pieces of equipment on the road," said Wanda Booker, Sanitation Services Manager. "Those are salt trucks which have the capability to plow as well. And based on whatever the forecast throws at us, we`ll throw as much equipment at it as we can."

Milwaukee will have a patrol person monitoring the condition of the roads. That person will let the city know if and when equipment needs to be deployed.

"We`re believing that tomorrow rush hour is going to be especially problematic because people will be trying to get home at the height of when the heavy snow is forecast to come in," said Booker.

Milwaukee Public Schools is also monitoring the weather situation -- to determine whether or not to close school on Thursday.
