State wildlife officials reminding hunters of CWD holiday hunt

MADISON (AP) -- State wildlife officials are reminding gun hunters they have one last chance to kill deer this season in south central Wisconsin's chronic wasting disease management zone.

The so-called Holiday Hunt will start on Dec. 24 in the zone and run through the end of the late bow season on Jan. 6. Hunters can take deer with any legal firearm, bow or crossbow. Bow hunters must wear blaze orange.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the goal of the hunt is to give hunters more opportunity and control the herd in the zone, a roughly triangular territory that extends approximately from the Illinois border northwest to Vernon and Juneau counties.
