West Bend DPW crews ready to hit the snowy roads

WEST BEND -- The trucks are all lined up, the road salt is piled high, and the West Bend Public Works team is gearing up for possible blizzard conditions.

The department has more than 25 plows on hand and 25 people on call. They have more than 6,500 tons of salt ready to spread on roads throughout the city.

"We'll respond with snow plowing as soon as there's enough snow out there to plow," said Rick Heisler of the DPW.

The crews in West Bend are keeping a close eye on problem areas like the intersection at Main and Decorah. It's a hill that has been a headache for drivers for some time.

Meanwhile, people in West Bend are stocking up on essentials -- oil for the snow plow, brushes for the car.

Down the road from the shopping, officials with the school district are being vigilant. Thursday could provide the first snow day in the last two years.

"We make sure that we make a decision soon enough so that parents can understand and put them in a position to prepare for it," said Superintendent Ted Neitzke.
