In YouTube video, Benjamin Sebena discusses war horrors, connecting with "Jen"
WAUWATOSA -- 30-year-old Benjamin Sebena of Menomonee Falls was charged on Thursday, December 27th with first-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon in the murder of his wife, Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena.
Benjamin Sebena made his initial court appearance on Thursday afternoon, when bail was set for Sebena at $1 million.
By his own admission, Benjamin Sebena was struggling to readjust after serving two tours in Iraq. The Marine was featured in a video posted to YouTube by a group associated with Elmbrook Church in Brookfield.
The video details Benjamin Sebena's transition from warrior to husband. It ends with Sebena seeming to have suppressed the demons. Now, Sebena faces life in prison in connection with the murder of his wife.
In the video, Sebena describes death, the loss of his friends and a death for which he claimed responsibility.
Now, Wauwatosa police say he has killed again, but this time, as a civilian.
Jennifer Sebena was found dead -- shot multiple times on Christmas Eve. Her body was found just outside the back door of the Wauwatosa Fire Department after she failed to respond to calls for service from dispatch.
The criminal complaint in the case indicates Jennifer Sebena had confided in a fellow officer that she had been the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband -- even saying Benjamin Sebena had put a gun to her head.
In the YouTube video, Benjamin Sebena described how he connected with his future wife through MySpace. The two had reportedly gone to high school together.
Sebena also described injuries he suffered during a 2004 mortar attack.
Investigators say they are in the process of reviewing Benjamin Sebena's mental health history in the search for a motive in this killing.
FOX6 News requested a list of police calls to the Menomonee Falls home the couple shared. Records show just a few mundane calls -- an eBay complaint and a request to leave a dumpster out, but nothing that would foreshadow a murder.
