Wheelchair rugby demands nerves of steel

MILWAUKEE -- One moment they were able-bodied athletes. The next -- wheelchair-bound for life. But they won't take the challenges they've been dealt sitting still. Instead, they've found an outlet with wheelchair rugby.

The coach of the wheelchair rugby team FOX6's Tom Pipines met recently is coached by a former player himself, Ken Matthews.

Luis Classen broke his neck in a diving accident. He was introduced to the sport a year after his injury while volunteering at Froedtert Hospital as a mentor.

The sport is not just for the guys. Katie Yench is believed to be the youngest person in the state to have multiple sclerosis. She was 14 years old when she suffered her first attack. Someone told Katie about wheelchair rugby when she was at Froedtert getting intense physical therapy.
