Two giraffes killed in fire at Wisconsin Dells wildlife park

WISCONSIN DELLS -- Two giraffes have died after a fire at a Wisconsin Dells wildlife park. Wisconsin Dells police say the fire broke out around 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30th at at the Timbavati Wildlife Park.

Fire crews arrived to find the giraffe enclosure fully engulfed. Two four-year-old male giraffes were killed.

Police say they are investigating the cause and have no reason to believe the fire is suspicious.

For the owners of the park it's a tough end to the year.

"It's horrible. We have giraffes. That's the last thing in the world you want to lose and everybody around the whole facility, the staff and everybody is pretty upset about it," one park owner said.

The park features exotic animals, rides and other attractions. It also allows visitors to feed the giraffes.

It was closed for the season and will open in May.
