Fire damages Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design student union

MILWAUKEE -- Fire officials responded to the scene of a fire at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) student union building early Wednesday morning, January 2nd.

Officials say the call came in around 1:27 a.m. as an alarm sounding the alarm company. Upon arrival, first responders found a heavy volume of fire in the attic of the building.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown, however, officials believe the cause may be electrical.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.

Authorities estimate that $70,000 in damage was caused to the building and $30,00 in damage to the contents.

MIAD students are on winter break until January 14th.
