Ozaukee Co. undersheriff reveals details in missing man's last phone call

CEDARBURG -- Authorities continue to search for 24-year-old Robert Steinbrecker, who has been missing since December 27th.

Ozaukee County Undersheriff Jim Johnson says on the night of December 27th, Steinbrecker left Maxwell's Pub around 2:00 a.m. and he and a few friends were headed north, walking on the ice on Cedar Creek.

Johnson says Steinbrecker decided to run up ahead of his friends, and they lost sight of him around a curve.

However, Johnson says Steinbrecker's friends were able to make phone contact around 2:40 a.m., but described the conversation as confused.

"He wasn't exactly sure where he was. They were trying to meet on Sheboygan Road, but they never met up," Johnson said.

That was the last time anyone heard from Steinbrecker. Since then, authorities from several different agencies have searched the ice and wooded areas along Cedar Creek.

They are also reaching out to residents along the creek for help. Authorities called homeowners, asking them to check their property for any sign of Steinbrecker -- even a piece of clothing.

Officials are also handing out flyers with Steinbrecker's picture and description.

Arlene Hanrahan said she hasn't seen anything on her property, but she hopes, for the family's sake, Steinbrecker is found soon.

"Young man like that, I certainly am praying that they find him okay," Steinbrecker said.

Anyone with information about Steinbrecker’s whereabouts is urged to call the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office at 262-284-7172. You’re asked to reference incident #12-35179.
