Man faces multiple charges after bar fight in Racine
RACINE -- 25-year-old Nathaniel Jahn of Wisconsin Rapids faces multiple felony charges after a bar fight in Racine on Sunday, January 6th.
Two uniformed Racine police officers were working on-duty security at All Sports Bar on Rapids Dr. in Racine Sunday evening. One of the officers noticed a fight breaking out.
The criminal complaint indicates Jahn had placed another man in a rear choke-hold. The officers noticed Jahn was squeezing "the victim's neck in a strong and very forceful manner in an effort to suffocate him."
When officers ordered Jahn to remove his grip from the victim's neck, the complaint indicates Jahn disregarded the order. Eventually one of the officers was able to get Jahn in a "compliance hold" and release his grip on the victim.
The complaint indicates one of the officers recognized the hold that Jahn had on the victim was one that is taught in the military. The officer told Jahn "that he knew that he was trying to suffocate and kill" the victim. Jahn told the officers, "I'm a Marine. That's what I'm trained to do."
The complaint says the victim stated that "he believed that he was going to die and would have died had (the officer) not saved him."
Jahn faces charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. If convicted, Jahn faces up to 60 years in prison.
