Contact 6: Beware of Packers playoff ticket scams

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Finding seats to watch the Green Bay Packers take on the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, January 12th may not be as easy as it seems!

The Packers take on the 49ers in San Francisco on Saturday night in another huge game for the Pack -- and there are thousands of Packers fans eager to make the trip to sunny San Francisco, looking for tickets.

Finding tickets isn't a problem, as they are available nearly anywhere online. However, it's receiving those tickets that has both the Better Business Bureau and the Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection sending out alerts.

"Sometimes when we get a complaint, someone doesn't even know the name and the address and the phone number of who they're dealing with!  Be sure to get that information upfront," Ran Hoth with the Wisconsin BBB said.

When buying online, it's important to have the seller email or fax a picture of the actual tickets. Ticket information should have the correct game date, time and seating details, but the bar code should be blurred so it cannot be reused as a counterfeit ticket.

Other tips include never paying cash for tickets and instead, using a credit card in case there's a dispute and never buying from someone on the street who may be selling stolen or counterfeit tickets.
