Car taken in armed robbery set on fire in Washington Park

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A stolen Mercedes was found fully engulfed in flames near the band shell in Washington Park around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, February 3rd.

Authorities discovered the vehicle after the Sheriff's Office dispatch center advised squads of a car fire at 1859 N. 40th Street.

Authorities say an armed robbery of the Mercedes occurred in Milwaukee earlier that same evening.

Sheriff Clarke indicated that it is not unusual for a suspect to set a stolen vehicle on fire to destroy any potential evidence such as fingerprints or DNA.

The vehicle is being turned over to the Milwaukee Police Department for their investigation of the armed robbery.
