Preparations made in advance of Thursday's snowfall

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- More snow is expected to fall in southeastern Wisconsin on Thursday, February 7th. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for all counties beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing through midnight. This storm has the potential to be the biggest snow event so far this season for some of the FOX6 viewing area.

Preparations were being made Wednesday night ahead of the storm. City officials told FOX6 News they are expecting the thick, heavy snow -- the kind that can create bigger problems.

Inside National Ace Hardware in downtown Milwaukee, store manager Marco Herrera and his staff were working hard, preparing for the impending storm.

"It's pretty hectic today. We're getting prepared like most people in the neighborhood. We're selling quite a bit of salt. Between the businesses and the homeowners in this area we're selling quite a bit," Herrera said.

The City of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works is also bracing for what is forecasted to be the city's first big snowfall of the season.

"We knew that eventually winter would come and so we're ready for the challenge. If we approach the four to six inches that they're calling for tomorrow we'll hook up plows to our garbage and recycling packers to do the plowing in the residential areas so that may have some impact on garbage and recycling collection,"

In Racine, the city's Director of Public Works told FOX6 News employees are on call and ready.

On Tuesday, on I-94 near 7 Mile Road a Racine police officer was involved in an accident with two semi trucks as snow fell that afternoon. The officer suffered minor injuries.

This crash could serve as a warning for drivers as more snow moves into the area on Thursday.

"It's been busy today and I'm assuming business will be even more tomorrow," Herrera said.
