MPS hosting recruitment events in effort to hire 700 new teachers
MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee Public Schools will host five recruitment events from February 6th through March 20th in an effort to hire 700 new teachers, as well as paraprofessionals and more than a dozen principals.
Qualified applicants could leave a teacher recruitment session with a letter of intent to be hired by the district. Early contracts may be offered at the March 2nd district-wide recruitment event for teachers and paraprofessionals.
The Milwaukee School Board agreed in December to boost starting teacher salary to $41,000 from $37,721. New teachers and administrators will also have 24 months instead of the current 12 months to move into the city of Milwaukee if they’re coming into hard-to-fill positions. A third year to comply with residency would be an option in hardship cases.
Three smaller teacher recruitment events are scheduled for teachers in specific shortage areas leading up to a March 2 district-wide recruitment event for all K-12 teachers and paraprofessionals.
A principal recruiting event has also been scheduled.
