Kosciuszko monument, Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The historical Thaddeus Kosciuszko Monument that has graced Kosciuszko Park on Milwaukee's south side will soon be shipped out of state for restoration.

An event will be held on General Kosciuszko’s 267th birthday anniversary, on Tuesday, February 12th 1:00 p.m. at Kosciuszko Park at S. 9th Place and W. Lincoln Ave. The statue will be lifted from its base and loaded onto a truck headed to a conservation artist’s studio in Ohio.

The grand statue and monument, affectionately called ‘the Kozy statue’ by locals, celebrates the accomplishments and victories of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, who was considered a hero during the American Revolutionary War and for his native country, Poland.

The Kosciuszko statue faces to the south on W. Lincoln Ave. and S. 9th Pl, and has been a proud landmark for more than 100 years.
