Fire crews investigate explosions, fire in sewer near Pfister Hotel



MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Fire and police crews were on the scene of explosions and fire inside a sewer outside the Pfister Hotel on Sunday, February 10th.

Crews responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

FOX6 News learned there were two explosions along Mason Street. A fire official said the explosion and fire obliterated the concrete and blew the manhole cover off.

During the secondary explosion, a woman was knocked to the ground by the blast, but she refused treatment at a hospital.

We Energies officials reported 550 power outages in the area, including street lights and residences.

FOX6 News learned some people were evacuated from the Mason Street Grill for about an hour as crews worked to secure the scene.

Fire crews believe the explosion may have been caused by some sort of electrical malfunction.
