Police end standoff with man who threatened neighbor with sword

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police safely ended a standoff with a 35-year-old man who had chased a group of people with a sword and then locked himself inside his apartment on the city's north side on Monday afternoon, February 11th.

Police say the suspect, who was shouting incoherently, holed up in a building on Singer Circle (south of Capitol Dr. and just east of Humboldt).

Police tell FOX6 News the suspect refused officers' commands to come out of the building. After more than an hour of attempting to negotiate the suspect out of the apartment, officers shot a chemical agent into the residence.

The suspect was apprehended safely and sent to a hospital for observation. The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for possible charges.

Nobody else was hurt in this standoff.
