Public meeting on I-43 bridges project held Tuesday evening

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public information meeting to discuss the rehabilitation of the I-43 bridges, from Howard Avenue to the Valley Bridge in Milwaukee County. Construction began this week.

The meeting is being held at the Humboldt Park Pavilion, 3000 S. Howell Ave. in Milwaukee from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format. The project team will be on hand to discuss the proposed improvements. Project plans, location maps, and other exhibits will be on display to illustrate the work in detail. This is the public's opportunity to ask questions, exchange information, and present known problems relating to the road.

As part of this project, 13 bridges will be rehabilitated, along with the mainline roadway, in order to provide years of service in this important transportation corridor.

The majority of construction along I-43 is scheduled to occur between February and August, with all of the work along the northbound lanes scheduled to be completed by Summerfest.

During peak hours, single lane closures will be required in each direction. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed at various times this spring and summer.

To accommodate the anticipated increase in local street traffic, parking will be restricted on the west side of 6th street between Virginia Street and Washington Street until late August.
