Two boys' memories help in collection of blood donations

HARTLAND (WITI) --  It is not how they expected to meet, or wanted to.  The families of 8-year-old Christopher Schraufnagel and 10-year-old Jack Bartosz met in the ICU of Children's Hospital as their kids battled cancer.  The two boys would lose their fights just two months apart.  But although the two families have gone through a nightmare together, they are both still standing--- together.

"Our goal is just to make it better for all the rest of the kids that have to go through this.  If we can make a difference for them, that's the goal," says Lisa Schraufnagel.

On Saturday, the two families hosted a blood drive.  A service that both their kids benefited from.

"He never complained with the poking and prodding that was done to him so I think for us to be able to do something like this, to get a poke of our on.  It means the world to me.  Because I know how much he endured," says mother Sarah Bartosz.

Donations were so steady, that the American Red Cross had to bring in extra workers.  By the end of the day, more than 100 people were expected to walk through the door of the Lake Country Lutheran High School.

"We didn't know being the first time how many people we would get.  So we are very surprised with the turnout," says Lisa Schraufnagel.

"Christopher and Jack would want us to smile and they would want us to make a difference," says Sarah Bartosz.
