Family of man whose body discovered says they now have some closure

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police on Tuesday, February 19th confirmed the identity of a body discovered near 63rd and Kaul earlier this week. The body belongs to a man who went missing from downtown Milwaukee a few weeks before Christmas.

53-year-old Dwight Killibrew clocked out of work at the Astor Hotel on December 14th at 9:55 p.m.

Milwaukee police say he was last seen in a neighborhood near 41st and Hampton. Killibrew's family says he did not have a car, and they believe he traveled by County bus on the night of his disappearance.

Robert Lashley and Dwight Killibrew go all the way back to the third grade, but recently, they would see each other on Sundays at church. Lashley says the colorful suit worn by Killibrew was just the beginning.

"He was a very dapper dresser. He liked his red and his pink, and very dapper," Lashley said.

Lashley says to his knowledge, Killibrew didn't have any enemies.

"I can`t see why anyone in the world would want to hurt him. He wasn`t hooked up in any type of game, wasn`t hooked up in any type of racket. He was just Dwight," Lashley said.

After Killibrew's body was discovered, Killibrew's family issued a statement reading: “Dwight was an fun, energetic, amazing person. He was a God-fearing man who will truly be missed by his family and loved ones. He was missing since December 14th and finally our family has some sort of closure. We love him and miss him and  we hope and pray the people responsible are brought to justice.”

Lashley hopes someone shares what they know about the crime with the police.

"Whoever done this, I know your conscious is going to whoop you. You can run, but you can't hide," Lashley said.
