West Allis woman tied to shooting incident involving Adams Co. deputy

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- A 52-year-old West Allis woman is connected to a shooting incident involving an Adams County sheriff's deputy. It appears to be a domestic incident with tragic consequences.

West Allis police say on Tuesday evening, February 19th, they were notified of a person missing under suspicious circumstances. It was the 52-year-old woman who was missing from a home on W. Vigo Terrace.

Officers got information that the woman and her 55-year-old spouse had recent marital and domestic incidents resulting in a no-contact order being in place. They believed she may have been with him.

Police alerted other law enforcement agencies to say the woman was missing and may be endangered. They also had information that the family has a home in the Town of Big Flats in Adams County. A request was sent to law enforcement in Adams Friendship to check for them and on the welfare of the woman.

Officers encountered a man inside the home -- and that's when things changed rather quickly.

"Verbal commands were given by the officers at which time the subject presented a handgun," said Sam Wollin, Adams County Sheriff. "Fired several rounds in the direction of the officers, the Adams County sheriff's deputy was struck by gunfire and sustained injuries."

Sheriff Wollin says the shooter then shot himself. Both the deputy and the shooter were taken to the hospital. The shooter later died.

There was one other person in the house -- the one who made the emergency call. It's presumably the shooter's 52-year-old estranged wife -- although the sheriff did not say.

The woman had been babysitting a juvenile relative Tuesday morning in West Allis when she went missing. The child was found safe at another location.
