Milwaukee officer shot, wounded armed suspect four times

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police released new information on Friday, February 22nd about an officer-involved shooting that happened near 45th and Villard on the city's north side.

The incident, which happened on Thursday, began when police were called to investigate a domestic violence incident. It ended when a Milwaukee Police sergeant shot an armed suspect. The 44-year-old girlfriend of the suspect, the 65-year-old family member of the suspect, and the suspect himself were all treated at a hospital for their injuries. They have since been released.

The suspect is in custody and the case has been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

MPD's investigation shows the sergeant involved in this case fired his duty weapon four times, striking the armed suspect with each round.

The cause of the injury to the 65-year-old family member who was trying to intervene in the domestic violence incident remains under investigation. However, police say it is likely that one of the rounds fired by the sergeant went through the suspect, striking the family member in the arm.

The sergeant remains on administrative duty pending the results of the district attorney's investigation.
